The Political Science Junior Fellows are assisting COBA, the COBA Ambassadors, and Career Services to bring in speakers to discuss ethics. The series kicked off with a stirring presentation by Gordon Massie from AIG and followed up with a lively discussion by Michael Young of Anadarko.
The program was conceived by Professor John Newbold, Professor of Marketing, to provide students with a lens with which to view workplace decisions. COBA soon agreed to serve as the primary sponsor, with support from the College’s Ambassadors. After discussing the issue with Professor Newbold, the Junior Fellows quickly agreed to support as needed. It is, as far as we know, the only such series ever held on campus.
More than 200 students attended the series, and the students’ overall response was very positive. Following the reception, a few faculty, COBA Ambassadors, and Junior Fellows attended a reception for the speaker.
The series continues on November 17, when Jim Olson will speak at SHSU. Professor Olson served as the Director of the CIA’s Counter Terrorism Division for 25 years and will discuss the “Ethics of Espionage.” The Junior Fellows will take the lead on the Professor Olson event.
