Danny Oppenheimer: Democracy, Despite Itself

The Junior Fellows and friends had another interesting evening in Houston, this time attending a presentation at The Brazos Bookstore by Danny Oppenheimer, a Princeton Psychologist whose new work discusses the paradox of democracy.  Individually, he argues, people exhibit behavioral biases that prompt them to act in irrational ways.  Collectively, however, this behavior often leads to positive outcomes–good public policies, higher productivity, and the like.  Following the event, the members and two of our favorite alumni–Megan and Laken–retreated to The Amazon Cafe for dinner.
