The Junior Fellows will arrive in Washington, DC on Sunday, January 20. This arrival time will ensure that we can pick up our tickets (Thank you Congressman Brady!) and get to see some of the DC Monuments. On our must-do list are: Washington Monument, Vietnam Memorial Wall, Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, World War II Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and the FDR Memorial. We also hope to see the Ford Theater, the Iwo Jima Monument, the Capitol Building, the White House and the Decatur House.
We also hope to see the Andy Jackson statue. This statue is a smaller replica of the famous statue at Jackson Square, where we visited in November. A third exists at the Hermitage in Nashville, which we will also visit–bringing us to all three sites of the statue in the United States, all in a two-month period.
We probably won’t make Sunday too late of a day, however, because our schedule for Monday (the day of the inauguration) is kind of intense:
3:30am: Leave Hotel without any of these items
4:00am: Arrive at Metro, Blue Line
7:00am: Arrive at Federal Metro Station
7:15am: Arrive at Inaugural Security and Entrance gates
7:45am: Enter gates
7:45am-12:30pm: Brave the cold/Mingle with 800,000 people
12:30pm-1:30pm: Swearing in, w/music from Beyonce, K. Clarkson & James Taylor
1:30-???: Exit, Stage Left (It’s a Democrat’s inauguration)
